I'm Sarah Hernandez and I will be coaching 13-Black this year at CVA / Cincy Elite. If you want to know what aspect of the game I like coaching most, it's serve receive. Seeing the kids gain confidence in their skills and not being afraid to go for the ball never gets old. Hitting runs a close second.
Though this is my first year at CVA / Cincy Elite, I have been coaching kids of all ages for about 8 years, including at Lakota East High School under Jen Dreher. I have been playing since I was in 7th grade and I still continue to play in adult leagues. When I'm not coaching or playing, I am a mother to three amazing kids I share with my husband Joe, and am a special needs bus aide for the Lakota school district.
What a night in the gym looks like: I build around fundamentals and technical work and high-volume, with a lot of contacts for every athlete. What I do after a bad error in a close set: I ask what was their mistake. Most of the time they realize what happened and we can talk about what we do to fix it.
On playing time: every kid on my roster plays. Though I may reward players with extra playing time who really push it in practice, listen to coaching critiques and implement them.
Please come to tryouts, or come to an open gym. Nothing beats seeing it in person before you commit, and you can reach me any time at mailto:sarahhernandez0719@gmail.com
